With his status for 2010 season still remaining a big question mark, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick recalled some old days when he was playing for the Atlanta Falcons. And his comment was: I was somewhat lazy.
“I think if I woulda applied myself,” Vick said, “there was a lot more I could have done off the field and also in the film room that could have elevated my game to a totally different level. I was complacent at the time, somewhat lazy, and I kinda settled for mediocrity.”
What he said was really somewhat surprising. Vick, actually, had many accomplishments with the Falcons, including leading the first visiting team to win a playoff game at Lambeau Field in 2002. Well, as he admitted he may never perform with his 100 percent, what did he learn after putting on NFL jersey again to join the Eagles following his incarceration? There is hardly anything as Vick did not even get a chance to start a game, let alone nay accomplishment.

Falcons’ No. 2 quarterback may start this Sunday
While the Atlanta Falcons No. 1 quarterback Matt Ryan is nursing his toe injury, the team’s No. 2 quarterback Chris Redman sees some hope in making a first start since putting on Falcons jersey in 2007. This first start would be against the Philadelphia Eagles.
To Redman, the job itself is not the difficult part as he played all but the first drive as Ryan’s replacement in last weekend’s 20-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and overcame five sacks, an inconsistent running game and two dropped touchdown passes by Roddy White. The difficult part is to get the chance. And now he has the chance, and the veteran quarterback feels anxious all this week.
"Yeah, pretty much," he said. "You kind of just go through your routine that you've stuck with over the years. Just try not to get to nervous and go out there and have fun."
Against the Buccaneers, Redman completed 23 of 41 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Hopefully he would do better while playing against the Patriots.

Falcons RB Turner rolled ankle in 28-19 loss to Panthers
As the Atlanta Falcons lost Sunday’s game to the Carolina Panthers, they also lost starting running back Michael Turner to an ankle injury, perhaps for quite a few days.
According to Coach Mike Smith, Turner will undergo tests Monday to determine if he’ll be out an extended period and when he would wear back his Falcons jersey. Originally, the running back entered the weekend seventh in the league in rushing and had surpassed 100 yards early in the second quarter against the Panthers. Unfortunately he rolled his ankle while being tackled at the end of a 10-yard run near the goal line. Taking off his shoe, Turner walked around on the sideline for a while before walking to the locker room without returning to the field.
He had totally 111 yards on just nine carries during the playing time on Sunday night. His replacement Jason Snelling finished the rest of the game with 61 yards rushing and a 1-yard touchdown on 18 carries.

Falcons won over Rams by 20-13 on Friday night
On Friday night, the Atlanta Falcons starters all gave expected performance, while the St. Louis Rams seemed disappointing with two offensive line starters absent.
The Falcons already gained 14 point before the first quarter ended. Great beginning and that was almost decided after Michael Turner accounted for all but 12 yards on the opening 77-yard drive. Starting quarterback Matt Ryan also gave a perfect performance with 7 for 8 for 81 yards with a touchdown pass in two series before the game ended.
As for the Rams, starting quarterback Steven Jackson had three carries for 10 yards in one series. Two offensive line starters and quarterback Marc Bulger was all absent. And the second pick of the draft Jason Smith took the job as starting offensive tackle after Alex Barron was injured on knee.

Falcons WR White has his new contract signed
WR Roddy White finally got his new contract signed with the Atlanta Falcons. The deal was done on Saturday night and contract terms have not been released. But according to anonymous source, the deal was for six years and included $18.6 million in guaranteed money. If it is true, White will become one of the NFL’s highest-paid receivers.
White ranked the fourth in the NFL last season, with a career-best 88 receptions and a franchise record of 1,382 receiving yards. He was also the first Falcons receiver in a decade to post back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns and the first in club history to tally back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons. But he decided to hold out in order to get a long-term contract as he was entering the final year of his last contract. For that reason, he had been holding out for the first week of training camp before new contract was signed.
Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said that the team looks forward to having a long association with White since he is "productive on the field and good citizens off it." White would feel happy too. If his holdout failed, he would become a restricted free agent in 2010.
