A three-year contract will keep four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter in the Arizona Cardinals jersey for the 2010 season and the next two seasons. Finishing his eleventh season with the Miami Dolphins, Porter was released by the Dolphins in March and became a free agent before finding a proper job in Arizona.
Spending his first eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the last three with the Dolphins, Porter has had 92 career sacks and trails only Jason Taylor (127 1/2) among active players. He also has had 12 career interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 23 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries with two returned for TDs. One of the reasons for Porter to join the Cardinals could be that the team’s coaching staff includes several members of the Steelers’ staff when he was with Pittsburgh.
The first meeting between the linebacker and the team was held on March 11, and one of the familiars was Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was an offensive coordinator with the Steelers when Porter was playing for the Pittsburgh. The familiarity with the coaches just helped Porter made an easier decision to stay in Arizona and ruling out the other suitor the Washington Redskins.

Safety Rolle is likely to be cut by Cardinals this week
Although the Arizona Cardinals would like to make their efforts to retain free agent safety Antrel Rolle, they may just let him to enter the free agent market this Friday as they are reluctant pay the $12 million Rolle’s current contract calls for his service in 2010 season.
“We will continue to work with him and treat him as if he is a free agent we are pursuing,” Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said. “We’ve always been under the impression Antrel wanted to remain an Arizona Cardinal. We have been able to develop him and we have seen him develop into an outstanding player and we want to keep that relationship going. We’re not looking to lose quality players, but again, all of those decisions have to make sense to us from a team standpoint. Obviously he is a top priority.”
Contrary to what Graves said, the Cardinals are actually losing quality players. Quarterback Kurt Warner has retired, linebacker Karlos Dansby is determined to join the free agent market and the club is determined to trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin. As the possibly best available safety, Rolle could expect great deal from several teams. To remain in Cardinals jersey could be the last choice.

8-3 Cardinals became the second team to beat Vikings
Neither the Pittsburgh Steelers nor the Arizona Cardinals has given a performance that could be called perfect for this season, but both teams managed to achieve other teams have not achieved by so far of this season: they beat the Vikings.
With a 6-0 start, the Vikings lost their first regular-season game to the Steelers, but they soon cleared doubt about their future by winning four consecutive games, but (but again) the Cardinals did not allow them to continue with the winning streak. Kurt Warner made it to 22 of 32 with no interceptions and no sacks, while the guy wearing his No. 4 Brett Favre jersey was picked off twice and sacked three times.
Hard to say which team surprised us more. The Vikings has kept their power rank at No. 3 following the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints for weeks, but they failed. The Cardinals lost last week’s game to 3-6 Tennessee Titans when they were still 7-3 and caused many to think that they would begin a loss streak when encountering the Vikings, but the team won.
The Vikings may win again in next game, and the Cardinals may lose again, but for now, Cardinals fans should cheer loudly for their beloved team for they really have done a good job.

Cardinals WR Boldin not to regret his critical post-game comments
Even after it has been rumored that the Arizona Cardinals may trade him in offseason, wide receiver Anquan Boldin said he had nothing to regret about his critical comments directed at Arizona’s coach staff.
“I said what I had to say and I’m done with it,” Boldin said on Wednesday. “For me, it’s not even an issue. That was Sunday and I’ve moved on.”
The three-time Pro Bowl receiver has been unhappy for being held out of Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears despite the team’s 41-21 victory. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said the decision was made to protect Boldin’s sprained right ankle, but Boldin complained that “no one was man enough” to tell him he was inactive. When he found that his gear in locker was gone after pregame warmups, his feeling was far from being good.
Boldin had been preparing all last week as if he would play in his Cardinals jersey in last Sunday’s game. No wonder his bad feeling has last for so long. Whatever, he still took part in full practice on Wednesday, and Whisenhunt said he expected the receiver to play this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Cardinals coach praised QB Leinart’s performance in opener
After Thursday night’s 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Arizona Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt said at a news conference Friday that he liked quarterback Matt Leinart’s performance at the preseason opener.
“He really made a couple of big-time throws,” Whisenhunt said. “That was nice to see, especially on the perimeter where he’s thrown them over guys, fitting them in a window. He was very comfortable in the pocket, very comfortable in the huddle.”
Whisenhunt had given Leinart extra pressure before the opener by saying that Brian St. Pierre has a chance to be the No. 2 quarterback behind Kurt Warner, and Leinart still managed to impress him by improving in stride and performing well in the game.

Rookie Redman help Steelers beat Cardinals 20-10
In the preseason opener the Pittsburgh Steelers played against the Arizona Cardinals, undrafted rookie Isaac Redman made good performance after the starters for both Super Bowl teams left the field and helped the Steelers win over the Cardinals.
It was rookie Joe Burnett who scored the first touchdown by intercepting a pass by third-teamer Brian St. Pierre. He then returned it to the Arizona 3 before the third quarter ended. Redman scored the second. Seven minutes after Steelers No. 3 quarterback Dennis Dixon started an 80-yard drive, Redman scored on a 5-yard run. Even fans wearing troy polamalu jersey began to cheer for him.
Steelers Ben Roethlisberger and Cardinals Kurt Warner each played two series and neither produced a point. Warner completed six of 10 passes for 53 yards for Arizona, and Roethlisberger completed four of six for 33 yards for Pittsburgh. And Cardinals’ only touchdown was scored by fourth-string quarterback Tyler Palko, who made a 20-yard pass to Onrea Jones.

Cardinals Latest move
Veteran center Melvin Fowler got a one-year contract from the Arizona Cardinals, who reseased center Donovan Raiola. Fowler is in his eighth NFL season now, with last three years spent with the Buffalo Bills as a free agent. In 2006 and 2007 seasons, he started all 16 games for the Bills. He started five of 14 games he played wearing buffalo bills jersey in last season.
Cardinals fullback Justin Green put on injured reserve by the team because of a knee injury. Green did not participate in any game last season after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens. He will out of game this season still because of a partially torn knee ligament. Coach Ken Whisenhunt is planning to try out several fullbacks to fill Green's roster spot.
